GEM Olympic taster days

Well, we’re getting closer and closer to the GEM Olympics and I don’t know about you but I’m getting excited!

The week before Christmas we had some taster sessions for the Creating and Performing category where you all did lots of Dance, Drama and Music.

On 20th January we had a taster day for the Finding Out and Explaining category.  When I’ve talked to your teachers I found out that you all spent the day doing some exciting Science invesigations and presentations.  Take a look at Year 1s pages and you can see some of the messy things that they got up to!

So now it is time to have our taster day for the Learning Challenges category. On Friday 10th February you’ll have chance to see what events you might enter for this category and have a go to see which ones you like.  Some of the things you might do are:

  • Handwriting
  • Reading Challenge
  • Children as Teachers
  • Spelling Bee
  • Times Tables/mental maths
  • Maths Problem Solving

Leave me a message and let me know which you think you would have a go at!

Mrs Kew

The Bowling Park GEM Olympics!

You found out this morning in assembly about the exciting Bowling Park GEM Olympics! This will be a week for you to show off how you have ‘reached the stars’ and ‘gone for gold’ throughout the year.  The GEM Olympics will be held in July and you will be able to compete in different competitions and events.  These will be for lots of different areas not just sport. Maybe you’re an amazing mathematician? Or are you a whizz at spelling? Can you talk the talk and be a member of a debate team?

We would like your ideas about what you think could be an event during the GEM Olympics.  The four categories are:

  • Learning Challenges
  • Finding out and Explaining
  • Creating and Performing
  • Sports and Health

Ask your grown ups too, they might have some good ideas!

Don’t forget our 6 keys words for the GEM Olympics:

  • Determination
  • Courage
  • Inspirational
  • Excellence
  • Friendship
  • Respectful

How do the ideas you have fit with these words?

Get your thinking caps on and we look forward to hearing your ideas!
